HARPER'S BAZAR RUSSIA, JUNE 2018
INTERVISTA - HARPER’S BAZAAR - CZECH REPUBLIC
The queen of the Italian Prét a Porter, Elisabetta Franchi, heads to Prague. Your boutique opened right in the heart of our metropolis and you simply fall in love with your models
Sophisticated and yet sensual. Wild and untamed. Classical and experimental lover. Italian fashion designer Elisabetta Franchi has created during her career a world in which women have the most seductive power. Her models are able to wake up a beast and a fragile fairy in each of us. The history of the brand began in Bologna in 1968, where she was born into a family of five children, and her first success began at school. She worked with five employees during her inception, and now she has more than a thousand in her company. So, once we heard that she opened her first boutique in Prague, we did not hesitate to ask her a few questions.
What were the first steps you took in the world fashion?
Fashion has always been part of me: I remember that as a child I loved creating clothes for my doll and this passion has grown with me over time.
What was the best advice you will received at the beginning of your career?
“Never look back, carry on your own world!”
What does style mean to you?
For me, style is the ability to highlight your own femininity, choosing garments that reflect your character, making you more elegant and self-confident.
What is for you DNA of Elisabetta Franchi brand?
My brand can be described with 3 words: femininity, elegance and authenticity. Born to dress strong, determined and self-confident women who love to be glamorous and sophisticated at the same time, without ever giving up style.
How has your work evolved since you started your label?
I think my job has changed because customers have been evolving so much. Today they are more informed than before. They are more aware about what they want and how they want to wear. Moreover, they know what happens around the world, they know the trends and the stylists thank to their creations.
What should not be missed in every woman’s wardrobe? A nice shirt, a skirt and a passe-partout dress.
How does your day look like? I mean working day…?
Designing collections, running a business, it’s all very hard: you go to work at 8 in the morning and go home at 9 in the evening, I spend my Saturdays and Sundays at work, and all the rest moves to the backseat. But I love my job, and doing it with passion is the only way I know
Do you have some designers icon?
Other designers you admire? I love Valentino and Dolce & Gabbana: they have a very strong identity and are able to express sensuality and great femininity through their collections.
Tell me more about the Elisabetta Franchi SS18 collection? What was your inspiration?
My inspiration comes from a scenario at the end of 800, on the background of boundless American prairies, where the protagonist is a new aesthetic linked to nature, purity and tradition. The collection reflects an ethereal femininity, expression of a new sensuality hidden through the voile dresses of silk, tulle and cotton muslin with full volumes.
I know it’s hard to say but what is your favourite piece of the collection?
I think every piece is essential because they all express something about me and my vision for this spring summer 2018.
Your clothes begin to sell in Prague. Have you ever been in Prague in Czech Republic?
Unfortunately, I’ve never been in Prague for the moment, but I will go there one day!
What is your favourite clothes, that you wear most often?
I really love simple dresses full of elegance.
Best advice you would give to women on style and fashion?
The advice I would like to give to a woman is "to not exceed": to be elegant and feminine it is not necessary to exaggerate.
Which is your favourite city in term of style?
For sure my favourite is Milan.
What is your life motto?
My life motto is “never give up!”.
