HOLA FASHION SPAIN, AUGUST 2018
A BIG ICON OF THE ITALIAN FASHION
Well done, really well done Elisabetta Franchi!
We want to congratulate you because you have come to Madrid to inaugurate your first boutique in the capital city. We spent time with you and we discovered the Italian woman’s essence in your DNA, pure energy: “I started working in the fashion industry on my own, because it was my dream and believed in it. I knew I had an uphill battle ahead of me, but I had never given up and this has paid me back. I wish to conquer the whole world” (laugh).
What do you like the most of your job?
I am an artistic person, I was born creative and drawing is what emotions me the most: when I have an idea I convert it into a sketch, which turns into a piece of clothing, worn by a beautiful woman eventually.
You have dreamed of becoming a stylist since you were a child, haven’t you?
Yes, it is an innate skill. I tried my best to communicate to young people that the biggest gift you can receive is comprehending what you would like to become when grown up. If you are sure of what your dream is, go and reach it. I knew this is what I wanted to do since I used to dress my dolls.
Were those your first designs?
Of course, I used to cut my home’s curtains to make dresses for my dolls.
While drawing, who do you think of wearing your creations?
There are some pieces I would wear myself, other amazing ones that I personally wouldn’t wear, such as miniskirts. I believe that femininity is sensuality, but never vulgarity. I always try to convey women who dress Elisabetta Franchi that they can be sensual without showing too much of their body.
If you weren’t a fashion designer, what would you be today?
(Laugh) I would be a pop star like Madonna.
Who is your favourite stylist?
Tom Ford when in Gucci. He was the first who opened up a whole other world for me because he was dressing a really feminine kind of woman.
And your style icon?
I have three. Jacqueline Kennedy from the past. She didn’t need money to dress decently, she wasn’t that beautiful but, in her simplicity, she had an infinite class. Today there are two women in particular that I admire and really like: Angelina Jolie and Amal Clooney, not just for they beauty, but also because of what they represent.
