Always active in the defence of animal rights through the support of a wide range of initiatives for their protection, today the designer has finally brought them all together into a single project: the ELISABETTA FRANCHI FOUNDATION.

A brand that in addition to the passion for fashion conveys a very strong message and infuses it with a mission, "giving voice to those who don't have one", to those who can't speak, yet say so much more with their eyes. Starting with the membership in the FUR FREE RETAIL PROGRAMME created by LAV (one of the most important Italian associations involved in the defence of animals), which between 2012 and 2013 led to the elimination of animal fur from its collections, followed by goose down and angora wool, Elisabetta Franchi has embarked on an increasingly ambitious path towards the protection of animals, as demonstrated also by the construction and financing of the Island Dog Village EF, an oasis of safety and refuge in the north of China for dogs subjected to the barbarities of the Yulin Festival.

These activities, together with the other initiatives already undertaken, will now be supported and carried out through the Elisabetta Franchi Foundation. Its first major project will be the construction of an animal shelter in Forlì by the end of 2019 to offer stray and mistreated dogs a home, treatment and later a family. Other missions of the non-profit organisation will include the expansion of its work in Asia, continuing its efforts to counter the Dog Meat Trade, and also in Southern Italy, where aid will be offered to support animal shelters in difficulty.

The Foundation will also support the many kennels lacking basic necessities and all the volunteers who every day save thousands of stray dogs from certain death.

"There's no need to wear a fur coat for our vanity" remains the motto behind the designer's numerous humanitarian projects, which go hand in hand with the company's internal culture, that, by joining the DOG HOSPITALITY project, has become the first company in Italy to open the doors to the pets of its employees, who can bring their four-legged friends to the office, improving the working environment and productivity. The Elisabetta Franchi Foundation has also been recognised as a non-profit organisation (ONLUS in Italian).
